David Bullock and Nancy Clark as possible parents of Caroline Bullock

David BULLOCK, b. abt. 1780, married Nancy CLARK and their children are given as:

  • Clarkie b. 1813 married Samuel A. SLOCUM
  • Jessie b. 1815 married Caroline M. FOIL
  • Caroline b. 1816 married James D. WELCH
  • Miles b. 1818 or 1819 m. Lumentha GRAHAM 1839, lived in Washington Parish LA. (David Schultz posting at BULLOCK Genforum gives 1819 and wife’s name. Paul White gives 1818.)

Paul White’s Nov. 19 2001 Genforum posting at the BULLOCK board, #1765 gave David as having a brother William J., that they went to Pike Co. MS from Franklin Co. GA about the turn of the 18th century, and that William is said to have gone on to Texas.

Franklin Co. GA was created 1784 from Cherokee lands obtained from the Cherokee Indian Nation and covered a large part of upper Georgia, from the present day borders of Rabun and Towns counties to Clark and from the Savannah river to the Oconee in Hall and Jackson counties. (Rootsweb Source)

BUT…

I communicated with Paul White and he stated William and David Bullock were in Franklin County, Georgia in and around 1800-1810 as they signed and witnessed property sales there. They then settled in Pike/Marion County MS about 1812…

and it was thought that they were brothers, but I find that William’s father was John and he didn’t have a son named David!!!! However as you know there was a David in Washington in 1820 and it is thought he is the father of the four Bullock’s that married in Washington Parish in the 1830’s.

He gave children as (1) Clarkie BULLOCK b. 1813 married Samuel Alexander SLOCUM (2) Jessie BULLOCK b. 1815 married Caroline Matilda FOIL (3) Caroline BULLOCK b. 12 January 1816 married James Daniel WELCH (4) Miles BULLOCK b. 1818 marrried Lamenta GRAHAM.

Here’s David Bullock in the 1820 Washington Parish census.

Even though I know censuses are sometimes wrong, I wrote to Paul that found it curious David BULLOCK wasn’t listed as having any children in the 1820 Washington Parish census and yet he’s believed to be the father of these children who were all born before 1820. Given in the household was one male 26-45 and 1 female 26-45.

Paul responded that it’s assumed that David is the father of the four Bullocks that married in Washington Parish for the following reasons: the eldest, Clarkie (or Clarkey) was named after her mother (Clark) and she also named her eldest son David; and Jesse, the second child, named his two sons William P. and David E.

Paul supplied a couple of transcriptions of land transactions that were sent to him.

Here’s William Bullock in the 1820 Pike County, Mississippi census above Washington Parish (plus some other names I was keeping track of).
