This photo of Catherine Hedden Brewer with daughter Rachel Jane Brewer Henderson was supplied by Everett Henderson Jr. and is believed to have been taken in the 1880s. Rachel Jane Brewer, bo. 1852 Oct 6 in Terra Haute, Vigo, Indiana, married Atwell Henderson August 29 1866 in Moultrie County, Illinois. About 1872 they migrated to Chautauqua County, Kansas from Neosho County. Catherine Hedden lived with her second husband, John Foster in Neosho until his death in 1895, so this photo could either have been taken in Neosho County or Chautauqua County.
A late 1880s, early 1890s hairstyle may have had Rachel Jane’s hair curled up and over in the front, similar to this photo of Bettie Brewer Noyes from 1891. Because I couldn’t do much myself restoring this photo, I never really completed trying to work on this photo and so never tried working on the hair.
