Andrew Jackson RANAGER (RANAGIER, RENEGAR, a whole host of spellings) was reportedly born 15 Jan 1826 at Mobile AL, 1st son and 2nd of 5 children born to John RANAGER and Mary CLARK. His son John, in the 1880 census, gives Andrew as born in MS. Alice (Ranager) CRABTREE in the same census gives her father, Andrew, as born in AL.
Andrew RANAGER married Martha Jane JONES who may have been born 1828 in England, according to Vicki Ranager. The 1880 census has Martha however giving herself as born in AL and her father born in GA. No birthplace is supplied for her mother.
Andrew and Martha had three children:
- John Wesley RANAGER b. 1847 or 1849 in England married Sarah CAULEY b. 1847. John died 1933 and is buried at the Old Whistler Cemetery in Whistler AL. (Amie Akerman supplies 1849 to 1933 as the birth and death dates from the tombstone. The 1880 census indicates he was born in 1849.)
- Henry RANAGER b. 1849 at Whistler, Mobile Co. AL married Ellen JONES b. 1849.
- Alice Virginia RANAGER b. 3 March 1851, WHistler, Mobile Co. AL, married Adam Bell CRABTREE.
Vicky Ranager writes (who provided the sources for Andrew’s parents, his wife and her parents): “I believe Andrew must have went to England, married, and had one child there and returned about 1850 – probably needs to be checked by possible finding some immigration records somewhere. I saw a John Ranager on one of the passenger lists as arriving here sometime in the 1850s. I knew our John Ranager arrived cir. 1820 from Germany. However, if Andrew went to England, his brother John Wesley Ranager could have went with him. ”
