Snoody<br \/>\nPress of Hudson-Kimberly Publishing Co.<br \/>\nKansas City, MO<br \/>\n1897<\/p>\n<p>VIOLET<\/p>\n<p>When Morning stole across the distant plain<br \/>\nTo wreathe the peeping blooms with aerial<br \/>\ndye,<br \/>\nThe first and foremost of the gaudy train<br \/>\nThat made her welcome was the azure eye<br \/>\nOf Violet, whose modest blushes said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Come bless me, Morning, in my little bed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When Morning stoop&#8217;d to pay the want&#8217;d due,<br \/>\nShe drop&#8217;d, from her heart, a jewel rich and<br \/>\nrare\u2014<br \/>\nA jewel wrap&#8217;d in rays of golden hue:<\/p>\n<p>And Morning said, &#8220;Fair one, this jewel<br \/>\nwear;<br \/>\n&#8216;Twill ever be your truest, best defense;<br \/>\nIt is Modesty rob&#8217;d in Innocence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>George H. Walser.<\/p>\n<p>GEORGE H. WALSER was born in Dearborn County, Illinois, May 26,1834. He practiced law at Middleport, Illinois, from 1857 to 1863. Since 1863 he has lived in Missouri. He founded the town of Liberal, Missouri, in 1880. Mr. Walser has published two volumes of verse, <em>Poems of Leisure<\/em>, 1891, and <em>The Bouquet<\/em>, 1897.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A sample of George H.
