Nellie married John Haffner.<\/p>\n<p>WILD GEESE <\/p>\n<p>Bravely, In streaming lines they fly,<br \/>\nSurely strong, and swift against the sky<br \/>\nWhere March her mist dimmed mantle flings,<br \/>\nAs they have flown ten thousand springs.<br \/>\nEarth bound am I, I cannot know<br \/>\nTheir swift wild freedom, as I go<br \/>\nAbout my humble tasks each year<br \/>\n I strengthen the tics that bind me here.<br \/>\n My old familiar rut is deep.<br \/>\nI am content, with it I keep<br \/>\nMy soul tied to my patch of soil<br \/>\nTo friends and kindred, hope and toil.<br \/>\n But, every spring the wild geese start<br \/>\nA sleeping something in my heart<br \/>\nThat beats like prisoned wings, and cries<br \/>\nFor wider skies! <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Poetry by Nellie Adelaide McKenney, 1902-1954, daughter of George Ellis (Bob) McKenney and Rachel Adeline Arnold.
