Among their children is a Mary, who is of age to be Mary MCANDREWS KEARNS.

Thomas had two brothers who settled “8 Mile” AL–Patrick and Martin–according to an article on “8 Mile”. Individuals who are likely these siblings generally appear nearby in the censuses.

Martin MCANDREWS, a brother to Thomas, in the 1900 census gives himself as immigrating in 1852. This would have been at the tail end of the Great Irish Famine which lasted from 1845-1850 or 1852, depending on who relates the history.

Thomas and Catherine appear to have had 8 children:

James b. abt. 1859 in AL. According to the 1900 census he married a Katie, b. 1861 in AL. Children in that census are: Leo b. March 1884; May b. August 1886, and Allen b. March 1891.

Mary b. 1862 in AL. Married Michael KEARNS.

Thomas b. abt. 1864 is seen in the 1870 census. This is possibly Charles who appears in the 1880 census as 17 years of age. He married Mary b. 1867 according to the 1900 census. Children listed in that census are: Ellen? b. Dec. 1888; Barbara b. July 1895.

Patrick b. abt. 1865, AL.

Catherine/Cochina (f) b. abt. 1867, AL.

Martin b. abt. 1870 AL.

Ann b. abt. 1872, AL.

Sarah b. abt. 1875, AL. married a James Francis (Frank) Tuite who was b. 1870 Junie in Mobile and died 1901 June 21. They had Alfonse (John?) and Catherine.

As one can see, there are a number of children who I don’t have any descendant history on. Perhaps a descendant or two will possibly one day visit this blog and have some information and stories to share.

The family has been located in the following censuses:

In the 1860 census Thomas, age 32, and Catherine, age 22; Martin age 24, and Patrick, age 27, and Hanora, age 22, are all living next door each other. A James MCANDREW, 65, is in the house of Thomas, who is of an age to be a father, but is instead given as a laborer. Also a Catherine, age 62, is living in the house of Martin, who I imagine is the mother of the three siblings.

1860 ALABAMA MOBILE CENSUS
pg. 104
…
James E.
